Canvas Can"vas, n. [OE. canvas, canevas, F. canevas, LL. canabacius hempen cloth, canvas, L. cannabis hemp, fr. G. ?. See {Hemp}.] 1. A strong cloth made of hemp, flax, or cotton; -- used for tents, sails, etc. [1913 Webster]
