Hematein Hem`a*te"in, n. [Gr. ?, ?, blood.] (Chem.) A reddish brown or violet crystalline substance, {C16H12O6}, got from hematoxylin by partial oxidation, and regarded as analogous to the phthaleins. [1913 Webster]
