Legislator Leg"is*la`tor (l[e^]j"[i^]s*l[=a]`t[~e]r), n. [L. legis lator, prop., a proposer of a law; lex, legis, law + lator a proposer, bearer, fr. latus, used as p. p. of ferre to bear: cf.
